2022-23 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League – Kwoon Chung Southern 3:0 Sham Shui Po


Kwoon Chung Southern hosted Sham Shui Po in Aberdeen Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon for the latest BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture. A hat-trick performance by striker Stefan Pereira led Kwoon Chung Southern past Sham Shui Po through a commanding 3:0 victory.  

Kwoon Chung Southern started the game positively and quickly knocked on the Sham Shui Po door. On the 4th minute, Awal Mahama delivered a dangerous cross from the right wing. Stefan Pereira connected with a quick shot but fired the ball straight at the Sham Sui Po goal post.

It was still the home side afterwards. On the 7th minute, Ju Yingzhi found himself on the receiving end of a teammate’s centering pass but sent his shot wide off target.

However, Kwoon Chung Southern was not to be denied and duly broke the game open on the 9th minute. A long throw-in from Tse Long-hin down the right side was nicely chested down by Stefan Pereira inside the box. The latter dished out a sweet bicycle-kick and found the back of the Sham Shui Po net. The home side was up 1:0.

Sham Shui Po tried to reply and produced a half decent scoring chance on the 15th minute. Oyunbold Oyuntuya unleashed a bouncing shot from the left wing but could not hit the target with his effort.

Kwoon Chung Southern nearly doubled its lead on the 34th minute. A slick counter attack from the home side saw Awal Mahama flying down the right wing and knocking the ball towards the middle. Tse Long-hin followed through with a one-timer but sent the ball just wide off the Sham Shui Po goal post.

On the 38th minute, it was Kwoon Chung Southern once again. This time, Lee Ka-yiu fired a rocket from the left flank that was brilliantly paved away by Sham Shui Po goalkeeper Wong Tsz-chung.

The first half wrapped up with Kwoon Chung Southern enjoying a 1:0 lead over Sham Shui Po.

Early in the second half, Kwoon Chung Southern came up with another scoring chance. Tse Long-hin floated a teasing cross into the Sham Shui Po box. Stefan Pereira nodded the ball towards the net but could not beat goalkeeper Wong Tsz-chung with his effort.

On the 63rd minute, Sham Shui Po’s fortune took a nose-dive, as goalkeeper Wong Tsz-chung was shown a straight red card by the referee, after the custodian brought down Awal Mahama outside the penalty area. Sham Shui Po was down to ten men.

On the ensuing free-kick, Stefan Pereira punished Sham Shui Po by curling a well-placed free-kick into the net. The home side doubled its lead and got in front 2:0 at this point.

Moments later, Sham Shui Po produced a rare scoring chance, as Tang Tsz-kwan unloaded a ferocious free-kick that went wide off the Kwoon Chung Southern goal.

Kwoon Chung Southern managed to expand its lead on the 80th minute, as Stefan Pereira gained control of the ball down the right side, then darted forward, motored into the box and fired the ball home with ease, making it a 3:0 lead for his side. Pereira also completed his hat trick on the day.

Late in the game, Sham Shui Po had a chance to get on the scoreboard, yet Chan Ching-him’s free-kick curled just wide off the Kwoon Chung Southern goal.

The 3:0 score stood all the way towards the final whistle, as Kwoon Chung Southern defeated Sham Shui Po and came up with all three points.
