2022-23 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League – RCFC 0:1 Kwoon Chung Southern


RCFC entertained Kwoon Chung Southern in Tsing Yi Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon for the first BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the day. Veteran Ju Yingzhi’s goal in the first half proved to be the difference of the game, as Kwoon Chung Southern edged RCFC 1:0 on the day and returned home with maximum points.

Kwoon Chung Southern fired the first shot of the game on the 15th minute. Ju Yingzhi picked up the ball on the left wing, then cut towards the middle and pulled the trigger, only to send his bouncing shot wide off the RCFC net.

RCFC had its own chance on the 22nd minute. Yeung Hin-lok unleashed a ferocious shot from the left flank, forcing out a solid stop by Kwoon Chung Southern goalkeeper Ng Wai-him.

On the half hour mark, Kwoon Chung Southern came close to opening the score. Jahangir Khan gained possession of the ball on the right wing, flashed out a few brilliant moves, lost his marker before ripping a tight angle shot that ended up hitting the side netting.

On the 38th minute, the Hong Kong Island-side finally broke the game open. Shu Sasaki delivered a great cross towards the middle. Stefan Pereira sent a leaping header towards the net but was paved away by Lam Chun-kit in goal. However, Kwoon Chung Southern’s Ju Yingzhi managed to scoop up the rebound and quickly fired the ball home. Kwoon Chung Southern was up 1:0.

Kwoon Chung Southern kept the pressure coming and almost netted its second goal of the game. On the 42nd minute, a simple one-two between Stefan Pereira and Shu Sasaki saw the ball reaching Pereira inside the RCFC box. Pereira beat RCFC keeper Lam Chun-kit to the ball and quickly poked it towards the net, only to miss hitting the target.

Right before the half time whistle, Kwoon Chung Southern came close once again. This time, Kessi Dos Santos connected with a teammate’s long free-kick delivery and headed on the ball. Eduardo Klein was at the RCFC doorstep but saw his header hitting the goal-post and staying out of the net. The first half finished with Kwoon Chung Southern leading RCFC by 1:0.

Kwoon Chung Southern produced a superb scoring chance early in the second half. On the 48th minute, Tse Long-hin’s long throw in was headed on by Kessi Dos Santos. Kota Kawase went sliding in at the RCFC goal-mouth but sent his cracking effort straight at the crossbar. The ball eventually stayed out of the net.

The Hong Kong Island side generated another great scoring opportunity later on. On the 64th minute, a Tse Long-hin long throw in caused melee inside the RCFC box. Kota Kawase dished out an acrobatic bicycle-kick but saw his shot smartly claimed by Lam Chun-kit in the RCFC goal.

A few minutes later, Stefan Pereira had a decent chance to add to Kwoon Chung Southern’s lead, yet the striker’s free-kick attempt sailed just wide off the RCFC goal.

Moments later, Pereira had successive chances to put Kwoon Chung Southern further in front. Unfortunately for the visitors, his initial long-range drive missed finding the intended target, while his header shortly afterwards sailed over the RCFC goal.

On the 83rd minute, Kwoon Chung Southern’s Tse Long-hin floated a teasing corner kick into the RCFC penalty area. Kessi Dos Santos sent a close range header straight to the RCFC net, only to be tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Lam Chun-kit.

At the end, Ju Yingzhi’s goal proved to be the match winner of the day, as Kwoon Chung Southern secured a 1:0 victory over RCFC away from home.
