Four national youth footballers represented HKFA in AFC e-Goal Programme
The Hong Kong Football Association selected four young representatives from the youth national team including Xavier Chang, Ryan Lee, Maggie Chu and Allyson Shick to participate the East Zone edition of the ground-breaking AFC-Aurora e-Goal Programme.
The e-Goal virtual programme was a partnership between Asian Football Confederation (AFC), through its AFC Dream Asia Foundation, with Jordan-based youth development organization, Aurora for Training and Development. It aimed to educate young players on the social and moral foundations of sport for development and peace, empowered them with the necessary skills to lead social change, engaged the young players and increased their individual and national social capital.
The program lasted for three weeks, and the four young representatives formed part of a 20-strong group of ambassadors from different Asian Football Confederation Member Associations including Hong Kong, Guam, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Mongolia, Macau, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The eight online workshops focused on how sport can be used to accelerate progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and participants also delved into topics including Philanthropy in Football, Diversity and Inclusion, Mental Health, Civic Engagement and Participation
The four young representatives believed that this programme gave them the opportunity to engage on themes they planned so that they could learn more about the relationship between football and society, how to contribute to society and knew more about the United Nations Sustainable Goals. Apart from that, they knew the importance of being a member of the representative team, and they need to make good use of the platform they had now to give back to the society the knowledge they have learned in the project and bring changes to Hong Kong through the eight online workshops. In addition, the four expressed their gratitude to The Hong Kong Football Association for giving this opportunity to communicate with representatives of young players from different country.
