BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League Week 2 presents intriguing clashes

Kwoon Chung Southern and BC Rangers will meet up in Aberdeen Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon for the opening BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the weekend. The match will kick-off at 15:00.

Kwoon Chung Southern got off to a great start in the new premier league campaign by toppling Tin Shui Wai Pegasus 4:0 last weekend. The commanding victory shot Kwoon Chung Southern to the second place in the premier league table, trailing behind Eastern Long Lions on goal-difference. Veteran striker Stefan Pereira scored a memorable hat-trick in the win over Tin Shui Wai Pegasus and has seemingly struck up a great understanding with fellow attackers Shu Sasaki and James Ha, making the Kwoon Chung Southern offense all the more dangerous.

Young BC Rangers fell behind Happy Valley twice in the previous premier league outing but managed to come back on both occasions to earn a hard-fought 2:2 draw. With wily veterans such as Lam Ka-wai and Lo Kwan-yee joining the team in the offseason, BC Rangers is no longer an inexperienced and raw side. Junior Soares and Yiu Ho-ming, both scored against Happy Valley, have proven to be useful additions to BC Rangers and should not be overlooked.

Later on Saturday afternoon, RCFC will host Tin Shui Wai Pegasus in Tsing Yi Sports Ground for the second BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the day. The match is scheduled to start at 17:30.

Premier league new boys RCFC suffered a crushing 0:5 defeat against Eastern Long Loins in the premier league opener last week. Things could not be rosy in the RCFC camp at the moment, as the side has allowed a staggering eleven goals from the past two fixtures, scoring only once. RCFC must cut down on defensive mistakes in order to stand a chance against Tin Shui Wai Pegasus, or else it could be a very long day for starting goalkeeper Lam Chun-kit.

Just like RCFC, Tin Shui Wai Pegasus is also coming off a heavy defeat, as the side was handed a 0:4 loss by Kwoon Chung Southern last week. Head coach Kenneth Kwok, previously away for personal reasons, is now back in-charge and will be eager to help Tin Shui Wai Pegasus to hunt down the team’s first league win of the season. While Tin Shui Wai Pegasus does possess undeniable quality in the form of Jose Dos Santos, Sun Ming-him and Wu Chun-ming and Leung Hing-kit, the team must quickly gel as a unit and start playing up to its potential.

On Sunday afternoon, Kitchee and Happy Valley will lock horns in Mongkok Stadium for the first BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the day. The match will go underway at 15:00.

Defending premier league champion Kitchee were up twice against Lee Man last weekend but somehow failed to put away its opponent, eventually settled on a 2:2 draw to kick-off the new premier league campaign. With crystal clear title aspirations, Kitchee will be eager to make amends on the upcoming weekend, largely at the expense of young Happy Valley. Hotshot striker Matthew Orr got off to a red-hot start in the new season, scoring seven goals from all competitions, and should be the most obvious threat in the Kitchee front-line.

Happy Valley drew BC Rangers 2:2 last weekend and will be searching for an upset victory against premier league big hitter Kitchee this time around. Similar to Kitchee, Happy Valley went in front twice in the previous fixture but somehow failed to nurse its lead to the final whistle. Against a much lethal opponent in the shape of Kitchee, Happy Valley must bring its A-game on matchday to avoid any mishap.

Nigerian forward Robert Odu has scored four goals in all competitions so far this season and his direct, imposing playing style could very well put the Kitchee defense under stern test.

Lee Man is scheduled to host Eastern Long Lions on late Sunday afternoon in Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground to wrap up the weekend’s BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixtures. The intriguing league battle will start at 17:30.

Combative Lee Man is fresh off a feisty 2:2 draw against Kitchee in the premier league and will be relishing the opportunity to open its premier league winning account in the new domestic football season. Striker Leong Ka-hang has been in the form of his life and has four goals in all competitions so far this season. In addition, Argentine midfielder Jonatan Acosta continues to impress with some extremely lively performances on the pitch and might actually hold the key to Lee Man’s winning chances on Sunday afternoon.

After trashing RCFC 5:0 last weekend in the premier league, Eastern Long Lions find themselves sitting on top of the league-table, edging Kwoon Chung Southern on goal-difference. The premier league powerhouse will try to keep its sizzling league form going and should be taking the game to Lee Man despite playing away from home. Alessandro Leonardo, Everton Camargo and Lucas Da Silva, Eastern Long Lions’ explosive attacking trio, all found the back of the net in the victory against RCFC and will be spearheading the team’s offense once again.
