2020-21 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League - Kitchee 2:2 Lee Man

Kitchee played host to Lee Man in Mongkok Stadium on late Sunday afternoon for the second BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the day. Kitchee took the lead twice in the game but somehow allowed Lee Man to come back on both occasions. At the end, Kitchee and Lee Man shook hands on a well-fought 2:2 draw.

Kitchee came up with a decent chance to open the score on the 12th minute, as Matthew Orr worked together with a teammate down the right wing and received the ball near the edge of the box. Orr sent a low drive towards goal but could not generate enough pace to trouble Lee Man custodian Chan Ka-ho.

On the 19th minute, it was Kitchee once again. Wellingsson De Souza unloaded a curling shot from the right flank but could not get past the well-positioned Chan Ka-ho in Lee Man net.

Kitchee duly took the lead on the 26th minute, as Cleiton De Oliveira pressured the ball off a Lee Man player outside the box. The ball somehow fell for Matthew Orr, who went ahead, fired a left-footer that hit the goal-post and entered the net, putting Kitchee in front.

Lee Man quickly replied on the 31st minute through a penalty-kick. Pacey forward Leong Ka-hang made a darting run into the Kitchee box and was brought down by defender Helio Goncalves. The referee quickly pointed to the penalty-spot and awarded Lee Man with a penalty-kick. Serhii Shapoval took the spot-kick duty but saw his shot saved by Kitchee goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng. The Ukrainian kept his composure and coolly headed home the rebound, tying the game at 1:1.

Right before the half time whistle, Kitchee regained its lead. Cleiton De Oliveira sent a tape-measured free-kick into the Lee Man box and found skipper Li Ngai-hoi. Li showed off some clinical finishing and fired the ball into the Lee Man net. Kitchee was up by a goal heading into half time.

Lee Man came up with an early scoring chance in the second half. On the 47th minute, Martins Givanilton took down a teammate’s long diagonal pass, then motored his way into the left side of the Kitchee box and ripped a tight-angle shot, only to be charged away by goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng.

However, the visitors were not to be denied and drew level on the 50th minute. Yu Pui-hong nicked the ball off a Kitchee player down the left flank and teed up teammate Jonatan Acosta with a lovely pass. The Argentine attacker belted a screamer that hit the back of the Kitchee net with authority, giving goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng absolutely no chance.

Lee Man went searching for the go-ahead goal once again and came close on the 71st minute. Jonatan Acosta delivered a curling free-kick straight towards the Kitchee goal. The ball came close to finding the Kitchee net but narrowly missed hitting the target.

On the 74th minute, Lee Man came close to taking the lead, as Michael N’dri unloaded a thunderous shot from the edge of the box, forcing out a superb sprawling save from Kitchee goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng.

Lee Man continued to enjoy the better chances in the second half. On the 81st minute, Tsang Kam-to picked out Jonatan Acosta on a Lee Man counter-attack. Acosta unleashed a tight-angle shot from right side of the Kitchee box but ended up hitting the side netting.

Kitchee had a golden chance to restore its lead on the 85th minute. Chan Shinichi did some good work down the left wing and pulled the ball back for teammate Ho Chun-ting inside the box. However, Ho misfired and sent the ball harmless wide off the Lee Man goal.

The 2:2 score eventually stood towards the final whistle, as Kitchee and Lee Man finished the game with a hard-fought draw.
