2019-2020 Jockey Club Women's League (2nd Div.) - League Update


Best Union squared off against HKWFC in Tsang Tai Uk Recreation Ground on Saturday evening for a Jockey Club Women’s League (2nd Division) battle. HKWFC conceded the opening goal of the game but stormed back to secure a 3:1 come-from-behind victory over Best Union.

Best Union got off to a fast start in the game. On the 8th minute, Wong Lok Yi converted a teammate’s cross and tucked the ball home with ease, putting Best Union in front with an early lead.

However, HKWFC was not deterred and quickly draw level. On the 10th minute, L16 sent a lovely forward pass and found teammate Yau Ka Wai. The latter beat the Best Union goalkeeper to the ball and poked it into the net, tying the game at 1:1 for HKWFC.

On the 20th minute, Best Union nearly reclaimed the lead, as a goal-mouth scramble in the HKWFC box saw Leung Wing Ngan pulling the trigger but fired the ball wide.

It was still Best Union afterwards. Late in the first-half, Wong Lok Yi delivered a sweet corner-kick to the HKWFC penalty area. Fan Lee Wai applied a timely header but was turned away by the HKWFC goalkeeper.

The first-half ended in a 1:1 draw.

After the interval, HKWFC almost took the lead. On the 56th minute, Yau Ka Wai redirected a teammate’s cross but sent the ball wide off the Best Union goal.

On the 72nd minute, the HKWFC goalkeeper brought down a Best Union player inside the penalty area. The referee quickly awarded Best Union with a penalty shot. Wong Lok Yi took over the spot-kick but saw her effort smartly saved by the HKWFC shot-stopper.

HKWFC went in front on the 79th minute, as Yau Ka Wai unleashed a sweet shot from inside the Best Union box that entered the net at the far-side. HKWFC was up 2:1 at this point.

Near the end of the game, HKWFC managed to add another goal, as Lee Pui Shan belted a great strike from outside the box that soared into the Best Union goal just underneath the woodwork. It was a spectacular drive by the HKWFC player and the score was now 3:1 for HKWFC.

Both sides failed to add to the score in the remaining regulation time, as HKWFC secured a 3:1 win over Best Union.
