Prestigious Senior Shield competition kicks off on Saturday afternoon
The prestigious Senior Shield competition will go underway on Saturday afternoon, with Happy Valley taking on Hong Kong Pegasus in a Round 1 fixture. Match venue for the battle will be Yuen Long Stadium and kickoff time will be 2:30pm.
Happy Valley started the season with a heavy 5:0 defeat against Kitchee but rebounded in the last fixture by beating BC Rangers 0:1. Spanish striker Manu Gavilan netted the match-winner for Happy Valley in the victory and should be beaming with confidence entering the Senior Shield Round 1 clash against Hong Kong Pegasus. Ever-improving goalkeeper To Chun-kiu kept a clean sheet against BC Rangers and should play a key role for his team on the weekend.
Hong Kong Pegasus is still looking for its first victory of the season, after losing its first game in the new campaign against Lee Man and tying Wofoo Tai Po last week. Australian forward Charles Lokoli Ngoy has started his new football chapter in Hong Kong with a bang, scoring in Hong Kong Pegasus’ first two games. The speedy, imposing striker will likely put the Happy Valley under serious pressure on Saturday afternoon.
Later on Saturday, Best Union Yuen Long is set to faceoff against Lee Man in Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground. The match will go underway at 5:30pm.
While Best Union Yuen Long might still be searching for its first victory of the new season, yet the New Territories side has already proven to be a highly dangerous side so far. Best Union Yuen Long started the season with a narrow 1:2 loss against ambitious Eastern Long Lions, then held powerhouse Kitchee to a 2:2 draw, fully showcasing its potential. A win against fellow middle-weight Lee Man on the weekend is definitely not out of reach and an all-out effort from the Best Union Yuen Long players can be fully expected.
Lee Man seems to have greatly improved in the new season, as the enterprising side has gone undefeated so far in the new campaign. Lee Man started the season with a victory over Hong Kong Pegasus, then went on and drew Kwoon Chung Southern, collecting four points from its first two league games. French striker Michael N’dri has bagged four goals in Lee Man’s first two fixtures and is undoubtedly the side’s most dangerous player.
