AFC U16 Championship 2020 Qualifiers Group I - Guam U-15 1:4 Hong Kong U-15
Hong Kong clashed heads with Guam on Thursday afternoon in Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore for an AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Qualifiers Group I fixture. Hong Kong dominated the occasion and defeated Guam by 4:1.
Hong Kong got off to a fast start in the game. On the 5th minute, Zachary Hui delivered a sweet free-kick into the Guam penalty area. Yim Kai-cheuk soared high and nodded the ball home, putting Hong Kong in front 1:0.
On the 18th minute, Hong Kong went knocking on the Guam door. Zachary Hui’s corner-kick from the left side was nodded away by a Guam player. Yau Ka-chin stepped up, let rip but blasted the ball high.
Zachary Hui continued to be heavily involved in the Hong Kong attack. On the 24th minute, the Hong Kong midfielder unleashed a curling shot from the left flank that just went wide off the Guam goal-post.
It was still Hong Kong afterwards. On the 36th minute, Matthew Slattery knocked the ball towards the middle. A Guam player headed the ball away, only to allow Yau Ka-chin to step up and drilled the ball over the crossbar.
Hong Kong came close once again on the 38th minute, as Lee Tsz-hin’s cross met Matthew Slattery inside the penalty area. Slattery unloaded a shot but saw his effort took a deflection off a Guam player and went out of play.
Hong Kong doubled its lead on the 39th minute, as Zachary Hui’s swirling corner-kick was headed home by Yim Ka-cheuk. It was a carbon copy of Hong Kong’s first goal and the score was now 2:0.
Hong Kong continued with the pressure in the second-half and scored again on the 52nd minute. This time, Lee Tsz-hin delivered a dangerous cross into the Guam penalty area. Matthew Slattery buried his chance and fire the ball into the back of the net. The score was now 3:0 for Hong Kong.
Guam came up with a rare chance on the 62nd minute. Nainoa Norton picked up the ball outside the Hong Kong box and fired away, only to be denied by a lovely save from Hong Kong keeper Chan Ka-ho.
Hong Kong nearly added to its lead on the 73rd minute. Lee Tsz-hin made a great run down the right wing and delivered a neat cross to Matthew Slattery. The latter unleashed a timely shot but witnessed his effort hitting the goal-post and staying out of the Guam net.
Guam managed to pull one back on the 75th minute, as Joshua Benavente connected with a teammate’s cross and duly fired the ball home, making it 3:1.
Hong Kong hit Guam with another goal on the 86th minute, as Lee Tsz-hin’s shot from the right side of the box somehow slid through Mason Cole and found the back of the net. The score was now 4:1.
Both sides failed to add to the score in the remaining regulation time, as Hong Kong went on to defeat Guam 4:1 in the AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Qualifiers Group I fixture.
