Hong Kong Football Association appoints Thorlakur Arnason as Technical Director


Hong Kong Football Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Thorlakur Arnason as the new Technical Director.

Arnason received his UEFA A Licence in 2007 and is currently in the process of obtaining his UEFA Pro Licence. The Icelander possesses an extensive experience in coaching elite youth and first-team club football in Iceland. Arnason also had spells as the Academy Manager with IF Brommapojkarna in Sweden, as well as Stjarnan FC in Iceland.

Before joining the Hong Kong Football Association, Arnason was the head coach of the Iceland Under-15 Boys National Team, as well as the Head of Youth Development Projects with the Football Association of Iceland.

HKFA Acting Chief Executive Officer Paul Woodland is pleased to welcome Thorlakur Arnason on board. He states, “I am delighted to welcome Thorlakur to the HKFA as Technical Director. Thor has a wealth of technical experience and knowledge to lead the technical staff and develop football in Hong Kong.”

Newly-appointed Technical Director Thorlakur Arnason reveals he is extremely honored for the opportunity to join the HKFA.

“I am very happy about joining the HKFA,” said the Icelandic tactician. “My vision is to help our young players to find ways to get into the premier league, as well as to help our local coaches to move up the ladder. As a member of the HKFA, we have a plan in place and we will work hard to achieve our targets.”

Arnason will be responsible for the development of coaching knowledge, work with the Hong Kong Representative Team head coach on performance systems and development programs, as well as monitor players’ development from grassroots to international level.
