The Hong Kong Football Association is delighted to announce that CODEX, as the title sponsor of “FA Cup” this season, which is now officially named as 2016-17 CODEX FA Cup. A signing ceremony has been held today (Dec 8) for this grand occasion.
The FA Cup has come to the 42nd edition this year since it was first held in 1974. South China Athletic Association team, the most championship team, has won this historic cup competition for 10 times while Seiko and Eastern have won 6 and 4 times respectively. Hong Kong Pegasus won the competition by defeating Yuen Long in penalty last year. Together with the championship of Sapling Cup, Hong Kong Pegasus became The Double last season.
11 teams of BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League will participate in the 2016-17 CODEX FA Cup and compete for the championship. Semi-finalists of last year’s FA Cup including Hong Kong Pegasus, Kwoon Chung Southern, Lee Man Rangers and KMB Yuen Long are seeded and automatically advanced to the Quarter-final of the completion. The remaining teams will start at either Round 1 or Quarter-final with pairing drawn randomly. The first round will kick off on 17 December with Wofoo Tai Po facing South China. The final will be held at the Mongkok Stadium in May next year.
The Champion will be receiving a trophy and prize money of HKD100,000 while the 1st runner up will be receiving prize money of HKD40,000. MVP of the competition final voted by media will also be receiving prize money of HKD10,000.
