Kowloon Cricket Club (KCC) sealed third place in this season’s Jockey Club Women’s Football League (3rd Division) with a hard-fought 1:0 win over Yau Tsim Mong at Tsang Tai Uk Playground on Saturday (April 25).
Both sides started cautiously and chances were limited in a slow-tempo opening. KCC threatened first on eight minutes when CHUI NICOLE K. met a cut-back on the edge of the box but dragged the effort wide. Yau Tsim Mong responded on 16 minutes on the counter, with CHAN SIN MAN’s long ball finding MAK MING SUM, whose close-range right-footed strike was kept out by goalkeeper GURUNG JYOJI. KCC gradually took control as the half wore on. On 25 minutes, SIPPY RIANNA A. slalomed past three defenders and fired from a tight angle, but the goalkeeper gathered to keep the scores level at the break.
After the restart, KCC increased the pressure and made the breakthrough in the 54th minute. DAVIS OCEAN DELIHA FLORE beat the defender down the right and delivered a cross to the near post, where LEUNG WING KI VIKKI converted first time to make it 1:0. KCC nearly doubled the lead on 61 minutes as LEUNG WING KI VIKKI won possession high up the pitch and squared for DAVIS OCEAN DELIHA FLORE at the far post, but the close-range attempt was superbly saved. Yau Tsim Mong pushed for an equaliser but were largely contained by KCC’s back line. Their best late opening came in the 85th minute when WONG MAN CHING’s long free-kick dropped into the area and an unmarked MAK MING SUM volleyed into the side-netting.
KCC held firm to see out the 1:0 victory and finish the campaign in third place.
