The match began with Manchester United Academy U16 taking the initiative. Just six minutes into the game, Silva Mexes was fouled by Lee Ching inside the penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot, and Alfie James calmly converted to put United in front.

Only three minutes later, the Youth Select Team struck back, as Bennie capitalized on a mistake from goalkeeper Jake and slotted the ball into an empty net to level the score.

In the 13th minute, Lin Long Tik delivered a perfect through pass for MCGUNNIGLE, who finished clinically to make it 2–1 for the Youth Select Team. Their momentum continued, and in the 40th minute, MIRWASSER’s corner was met by MCGUNNIGLE, who bundled the ball in from close range, extending the lead to 3–1 at halftime.

Manchester United Academy U16 thought they had pulled one back in the 60th minute when Jodie headed home from Jacey' s free-kick delivery, but the goal was ruled out for offside. United kept piling on the pressure, and their efforts were rewarded late in the game. Jacey was brought down by Gao Ming-ho, and after a VAR review, the referee upgraded the decision to a penalty. Jacey stepped up and scored, narrowing the gap to 2–3.

As the match approached the final whistle, Jacey drew another foul inside the box from Lau Yin-hong. After another VAR check, United were awarded their third penalty of the match. Jaume took responsibility and converted, bringing the score to 3–3 with two late goals in stoppage time to force a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Manchester United Academy U16 held their nerve and edged out the Youth Select Team 4–3 on penalties, securing a dramatic 7–6 overall victory.
