Eastern meeted BC Rangers in Mongkok Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the 2023-24 HKFA Senior Shield semi-final, Eastern got a 3:0 victory over BC Rangers.
The game started off at a slow pace, with the first solid scoring opportunity not materializing until the 13th minute. BC Rangers' Ibrahim attempted a shot from a tight angle, but it narrowly missed the target, hitting the side netting instead. Five minutes later, Eastern seized their chance to strike. Baffoe, capitalizing on a brilliant pass from Yu Joy Yin Jesse, broke into the penalty area and coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper, finding the back of the net. This goal not only gave Eastern the lead but also marked Baffoe's impressive sixth consecutive goal in six matches.
Although BC Rangers fought back valiantly, they were unable to convert their chances. In the 20th minute, Lo Kwan Yee delivered a dangerous cross from the right, but Lau Chi Lok's header was thwarted by the agile goalkeeper. However, just two minutes later, Eastern extended their lead. Wong Ho Chun embarked on a remarkable solo run down the left flank, penetrated the penalty area, and unleashed a lovely lob-shot from a tight angle, finding the back of the net and doubling Eastern's advantage to 2:0. BC Rangers stormed out in the second half and tried to mount a comeback. Despite Wong Ho Chun's influential performance on the wing for Eastern, his long-range effort narrowly missed the mark, denying him a second goal. In the 75th minute, BC Rangers missed another chance to narrow the gap. Substitute Giovane connected with a pinpoint cross from the right and directed a powerful header towards goal, but the goalkeeper made a remarkable save once again. As the match entered its closing stages, Eastern gradually gained control of the game. In the 77th minute, Ma Hei Wai sent a precise pass to the unmarked Baffoe inside the penalty area, but the latter's thunderous strike was brilliantly denied by the goalkeeper's diving save. Moments later, Marcos connected with a cross from Baffoe on the left and unleashed a shot, but it failed to hit the target. Finally, Eastern sealed their victory with their third goal in the 89th minute. Kozubaev unleashed an unstoppable long-range shot from 25 yards out, finding the back of the net, and securing a resounding 3:0 triumph for Eastern. With this victory, they secured their place in the finals of the Senior Shield for the second consecutive year.
