Kwoon Chung Southern U14 and Eastern District U14 clashed heads in Happy Valley Recreation Ground for the Hong Kong Premier Youth League U14(Challenging Group) fixture. Kwoon Chung Southern U14 scored a late goal to tie the game,eventually settling on a 1:1 draw at the final whistle.

 

Both teams started the game rather slow and failed to generate chances in the first half. Although Kwoon Chung Southern U14 had more possession of the game, they couldn’t break through Eastern District U14’s defensive line and had few opportunities to challenge the goalkeeper. On the 7th minute, Kam Siu Lai tried his luck from the right flank outside the box but his effort was gone well wide. On the 18th minute,Lai King Him fired a freekick form 25 yards, only to see his shot sailing over the crossbar.

 

Kwoon Chung Southern U14 tried to step up by putting more pressure on Eastern District U14 backfield. On the 21st minute, Cheung Hoi Wun intercepted opponent’s pass near the box and unleashed a long-range shot, but his effort was easily caught by the goalkeeper. The first half eventually wrapped up with both teams locked in a goalless draw.

 

Both teams tried to break the game open in the second half and came out more aggressive. On the 46 minute, Luk Cho Kiu’s powerful free-kick just missed the target, and one minute later Sin Lai Yan connected with a sweet free-kick delivery from teammate, but he couldn’t generate enough power for his volley-shot. It was Eastern District U14 again on the 50th minute, a teammate’s fine pass found Lai King Him inside the box, but the latter couldn’t hit the target with his strike.

Eastern District U14 finally took the lead on the 54 minutes, a well-placed free-kick forced Yue Lok Tin to score an own goal, putting Eastern District U14 in front 1:0. Eastern District U14 had a chance to expend their lead on the 60th minute but Ho Long Hei’s long-range attempt was denied by the goalkeeper. 

Kwoon Chung Southern U14 tried to get back into the game and produced numerous of chances. Luk Cho Kiu shook off his marker in front of the penalty area and fired from distance, only to see his effort gone high, he then connected a fine centering pass from Leung King Chung but his shot was just wide. On the 75 minute, Kwoon Chung Southern U14’s effort finally paid off, Luk Cho Kiu delivered a well-placed corner towards the midlle, Leung King Chung connected with a timely header and sent the ball home. The game tied at 1:1.

Both teams had chances to score afterwards, Luk Cho Wing’s free-kick strike was stopped by the goalkeeper on the 80th minute, while a free-kick taking by Chan Hiu Chal also just missed the target. At the end, both sides failed to add to the score, as Kwoon Chung Southern U14 and Eastern District U14 shook hands on a 1:1 draw.
