Wofoo Tai Po and Eastern will gather in Tai Po Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon for the first BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the weekend. The match will kick-off at 15:00.
Wofoo Tai Po and Eastern will gather in Tai Po Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon for the first BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the weekend. The match will kick-off at 15:00.
Wofoo Tai Po defeated HK U23 last weekend to earn its second premier league win of the season. The three valuable points saw Wofoo Tai Po making significant ground on RCFC, who is sitting seventh in the league standing. Another three points on the coming weekend will see the New Territories side overtaking RCFC in the standing, which should be great motivation for the Wofoo Tai Po troops.
Eastern was stunned by a 0:1 away loss to HKFC last weekend. The premier league defeat saw Eastern dropping two games in succession and the team must seek ways to bounce back. With the likes of Emilio Tsai, Sun Ming-him and Victor Bertomeu in the lineup, Eastern simply has too many offensive weapons at its disposal and should be in line to give the Wofoo Tai Po defense a serious run for its money. New signing Gul Kaan has joined Eastern from BC Rangers and could be ready to make his Eastern debut.
Later on the day, HK U23 will host Kwoon Chung Southern in Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground for the second BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League clash of Saturday afternoon. The fixture will start at 18:00.
After earning a 1:0 win against RCFC in the Sapling Cup in late November last year, HK U23 has dropped four straight games in all competitions since then, allowing eleven goals in the process, while scoring only once. As it currently stands, HK U23 is situated at the bottom of the premier league standing, yet the young side is only three points away from ninth-place side Sham Shui Po. Coming up against the industrious Kwoon Chung Southern is no easy task and it remains to be seen whether head coach Szeto Man-chun can rally his troops and get them going against the visitors.
Kwoon Chung Southern snapped its two-game losing streak last weekend by edging BC Rangers 2:1 in a premier league outing. The Hong Kong Island-side now resides third in the league standing and is trying to keep up pace with Lee Man and Kitchee, two powerhouses that are pacing the league. Opportunistic striker Stefan Pereira scored his first goal in 2023 against BC Rangers and should be relishing the opportunity to add to this seasonal tally against lowly HK U23.
On Sunday afternoon, BC Rangers will host Lee Man in Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground for the opening BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the day's exciting triple-header. The clash will go underway at 15:00.
BC Rangers had its two-game winning streak ended by Kwoon Chung Southern last week. The young side will try to regroup and get on another run, hoping to climb the league table. Foreign import Gul Kaan has left the team, depleting BC Rangers' option up-front, yet youngster Jesse Yu has returned from his trial with Japanese club Kagoshima United and could be in line for a recall. Japanese attacker Yumemi Kanda was shutout for the first time since joining the team. With four goals from three games, Kanda remains a very dangerous presence in the BC Rangers lineup.
Table-topping Lee Man defeated BC Rangers 2:1 in the first game of the season and will be facing the enterprising side for the second time of the campaign. Ever since crashing out of the Senior Shield semi final on Christmas Day, Lee Man has got on a rather strong run, going four games unbeaten while winning three of them. The side has kept three clean sheets during the run and seems to have a slight edge against the host. Despite owing one of the better attacks in the premier league, Lee Man has been spreading the goals around, as shown by the four different goal-scorers in the previous win against Sham Shui Po. BC Rangers, be warned.
Elsewhere on Sunday afternoon, HKFC will host RCFC in HK Football Club Ground for a BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League matinee affair. The match will start at 16:30.
HKFC is fresh off a stunning 1:0 upset against Eastern in the premier league. The side will be raring to go on this coming weekend, hoping to put together a winning streak and to further move up on the table. New signing Thiago Da Silva made his HKFC debut last week and dished out a tasty assist that led to Paulo Carreiro's winning goal against Eastern. Physical and mobile, Thiago Da Silva is a towering presence upfront for HKFC and needs to be closely watched by the RCFC defense.
RCFC has faced HKFC twice so far this season in all competitions but has yet to come up with any victory on both attempts. However, those two encounters took place in early season and it remains to be seen whether RCFC has improved enough over the past few months and can turn the table around on this occasion. Midseason signing Pablo Lardies is a tireless worker and seems to have provided RCFC with another outlet other than Felipe Sa. It will be interesting to see whether Lardies and fellow new signing Philip Chan can drive RCFC past HKFC in the third attempt.
Kitchee and Sham Shui Po is set to square off in Mongkok Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the last remaining BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the day. The fixture will go underway at 18:00.
Kitchee, currently trailing Lee Man in the premier league table, is fresh off a 5:0 trashing of RCFC and will continue to look for another three points. The Shek Mun-side has recently bolstered its squad by signing former Korean international striker Kim Shin-wook and looks to become even more dangerous in the attack. Owning the most explosive offense in the premier league circuit, Kitchee is also rock solid at the back and has conceded only two premier league goals so far this season. Equally proficient on both ends of the pitch, Kitchee could be too much for Sham Shui Po to handle.
After nine rounds of premier league matches, Sham Shui Po only has a win to show for and sits just above HK U23 in the premier league table. The district side has faced Kitchee twice so far this season, dropping the first premier league encounter by 0:10, then losing the second match, an FA Cup quarter-final fixture, through 1:4. Lai Kak-yi is the only Sham Shui Po player that has scored against Kitchee and it remains to be seen whether the Sham Shui Po utility player can once again conjure some much-needed offensive flair to trouble the Kitchee backline.
