In an electrifying face-off for the Jockey Club Women's Youth Football League (U18) FA Cup final on Tuesday at Tsing Yi Northeast Park, Grace Citizen and Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK) battled to a 1:1 draw in regulation time. The match was eventually decided in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, where Grace Citizen triumphed 4:3 over Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK), clinching the championship title.
Grace Citizen launched into the game with a fierce offense. Barely nine minutes into the game, a precise through pass from Wong Tsz Kiu gifted Chong Ching Lam Jaylynn a promising one-on-one opportunity. However, her shot was brilliantly parried by the quick-reacting goalkeeper, Lee Yi Yan. The 14th minute saw Grace Citizen maintaining their offensive momentum. Wong Tsz Kiu received a long pass and launched a shot from the right flank, only to have it secured by the alert goalkeeper. Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK) created a scoring chance in the 23rd minute. Wong Tsz Yiu leveraged her speed to deliver a swift cross from the right wing. Unfortunately, the subsequent shot from Yick Wai Ying veered off-target. Despite Grace Citizen's dominance over the ball possession in the first half, they struggled to penetrate the firm defensive wall of Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK), leaving them with limited shots on goal. Neither the header from Wei Lan nor the shot from Chan Wing Ching could put the opposition's goalkeeper under pressure. At the 40-minute mark, Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK) was awarded a free-kick. However, Leung Hong Kiu Anke's direct hit failed to find the target. Two minutes later, Grace Citizen's Li Hau Yi managed to elude her marker and cut from the right, firing a shot which was confidently collected by the goalkeeper. The first half ended goalless at 0:0.
In the second half, Grace Citizen bolstered their attack and crafted a golden opportunity in the 49th minute. A precise cross from Chan Wing Ching found Wong Tsz Kiu in front of the goal, but her close-range shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Sung On Citizens missed yet another opportunity in the 58th minute. Player Wei Lan unleashed a surprise shot from the right of the penalty area, which was saved by the goalkeeper only to hit the crossbar again. In the 77th minute, Grace Citizen's Wong Tsz Kiu found herself in a promising position after receiving a direct pass, but her shot was deflected by the stellar performance of the goalkeeper. Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK), with their staunch defense, broke the deadlock in the 80th minute. A long-range strike from Leung Hong Kiu Anke saw the goalkeeper fumble, and Wong Hiu Ting seized the opportunity to fire the rebound into the net, giving Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK) a 1:0 lead. However, Grace Citizen made a swift comeback just two minutes later. In the initial four rounds of the shootout, Grace Citizen flawlessly converted all their penalties, while Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK) had Wong Hiu Ting's shot bounce off the crossbar. In the decisive fifth round, Grace Citizen's Wei Lan had her shot saved by Lee Yi Yan, and Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK) Wan Tsz Yau's shot similarly hit the crossbar. As a result, Grace Citizen emerged victorious in the shootout with a 4:3 scoreline.
Finally, Grace Citizen outplayed Chelsea FC Soccer School (HK) with an aggregate score of 5:4, earning them the Jockey Club Women's Youth Football League (U18) FA Cup championship title.
