In an exhilarating semi-final showdown of the Jockey Club Women's Youth Football League (U18) FA Cup held at Tsing Yi Northeast Park, Grace Citizen emerged victorious with a dominant 6:1 victory over Kitchee, propelling them into the finals.
Despite Grace Citizen controlling the game's rhythm early on, they struggled to penetrate Kitchee's stalwart defense and create significant scoring opportunities. It wasn't until the 12th minute that they mounted their first threatening attack, with Wei Lan latching onto Ng Wai Ching's corner kick from the left flank, but her header just missed the target. However, Kitchee turned the tables with a swift counterattack, drawing first blood. Yu Pui Yan stormed into the penalty box after receiving a laser-like pass from Yullia Ota and calmly fired past the charging goalkeeper Li Yuet Tung, handing Kitchee a 1:0 lead. Trailing behind, Grace Citizen redoubled their offensive efforts. At the 29th minute, they finally broke through Kitchee's defense. Kitchee failed to clear Chan Wing Ching's cross from the right, and Wong Tsz Kiu seized the moment. She uncorked a shot near the goal that Chan Hoi Ching inadvertently deflected into her own net, leveling the score at 1:1. Grace Citizen continued to press their advantage, launching several shots on goal. At the 32nd minute, a long-range blast from Au Tsz Cheuk Annabelle was swallowed up by goalkeeper Li Sze Ying. Five minutes later, Chan Wing Ching's attempted shot from a tight angle failed to find the target. The first half concluded with the teams locked at 1:1.
Barely a minute into the second half, Grace Citizen leaped ahead, with Lau Nga Ching Katrina capitalizing on a close-range opportunity to head in a goal, making the score 2:1. From then on, Grace Citizen held the reins. At the 47th minute, Chan Wing Ching's ambitious shot from the left was parried over the baseline by the goalkeeper. Then at the 53rd minute, Wong Tsz Kiu's header from Chong Ching Lam Jaylynn's right cross sailed over the bar. Yet, Grace Citizen weren't done. A minute later, they extended their lead when Wong Tsz Kiu threaded a sublime pass to Au Tsz Cheuk Annabelle who clinically finished a one-on-one opportunity in the penalty area, stretching the lead to 3:1. By the 66th minute, Grace Citizen widened their margin. Chong Ching Lam Jaylynn showcased a moment of individual brilliance on the right, shaking off her marker and unleashing a powerful left-footed strike into the far corner of the net, extending their lead to 4:1.
Four minutes later, Grace Citizen pierced through Kitchee's backline again. The dynamic Chong Ching Lam Jaylynn delivered a pinpoint cross to the front of the goal, allowing Wei Lan to easily nudge it in, ballooning their lead to 5:1. By the 73rd minute, Chong Ching Lam Jaylynn continued her masterful display on the right wing, feeding Wong Tsz Kiu with another precise cross. Wong Tsz Kiu made no mistake, knocking it in and increasing Grace Citizen's lead to an insurmountable 6:1. Kitchee had a glimmer of hope in the 80th minute with a free kick opportunity, but Hung Wing Tung Xyza's strike from the edge of the box sailed over the crossbar.
In the end, Grace Citizen triumphed over Kitchee with a commanding 6:1 scoreline, securing their spot in the finals of the Jockey Club Women’s Youth Football League (U18) FA Cup.
