Hoi King played the role of spoilers in the Jockey Club Women’s League (2nd Division) finale on Saturday (May 2), defeating league leaders Hong Kong Ladies Football Association 1-0 to strip them of the championship.

Hong Kong Ladies Football Association entered the match needing a win to secure the title but found Hoi King’s defense difficult to breach. Despite controlling the midfield and generating several corner-kick opportunities in the first half, HKLFA lacked the finishing touch, leaving the score level at 0:0 at the interval.

The intensity rose after the restart. Hong Kong Ladies Football Association‘s Fung Nga Kei Kay and Pang Tsz Ching both forced brilliant saves from the Hoi King keeper with low drives from the left. However, the deadlock was broken against the run of play in the 65th minute when Hoi King’s Ng Nga Wun clinicaly finished a loose ball during a goalmouth scramble.

A desperate HKLFA threw everything forward in the closing stages. Yung Ki Fung saw a goal-bound volley blocked by a last-ditch recovery challenge, and subsequent efforts were kept out by a resolute Hoi King backline.

The 1:0 result sees Hoi King finish the season in third place with 26 points. For HKWFA, the defeat proved catastrophic; they were overtaken by BC Ranger by a single point, finishing as runners-up in a heartbreak end to their campaign.
