In the Jockey Club Futsal League (FA Cup Second Round) semi-final, Eastern District cruised past Pak Hei 6:4 to book their place in the final, moving within touching distance of retaining their crown.
Eastern District burst out of the blocks, and inside two minutes OYUNTUYA Oyunbold rattled the woodwork from close range after latching onto a long ball. The dominant Eastern District broke the deadlock moments later when OYUNTUYA Oyunbold unleashed a thunderbolt from distance that arrowed into the top corner, leaving the keeper with no chance as Eastern District took a 1:0 lead.
The floodgates threatened to open in the 4th minute as WONG Ching Tak cut in from the left flank and rifled a right-footed effort into the far corner to double Eastern District’s advantage at 2:0.
Eastern District continued to press forward, with TSANG Tsz Hin forcing a smart save from shot-stopper FUNG Yi Lok in the 8th minute, while KWOK Tsz Kaai spurned a gilt-edged chance on 12 minutes, dragging his effort wide after being played clean through by OYUNTUYA Oyunbold.
Pak Hei showed character despite the two-goal deficit, halving the arrears on 14 minutes when CHAN Pak Hang cut inside from the right channel and slotted home to make it 1:2.
Incredibly, Pak Hei drew level just 60 seconds later when LEUNG Chong Yip dispossessed an opponent and unleashed a shot that CHING Man Chun could only parry, with KWOK Yu Ching on hand to tuck away the rebound and restore parity at 2:2.
Eastern District’s response was immediate, restoring their lead in the 15th minute as CHOW Ka Wa whipped in a dangerous cross from the left that TSANG Tsz Hin met with a diving shot at the back post to make it 3:2.
Eastern District extended their lead shortly after when CHOW Ka Wa got on the scoresheet, converting from close range after TSANG Tsz Hin's set piece delivery.
Eastern District held a 4:2 cushion at the interval.
The title holders picked up where they left off after the break, netting just three minutes into the second half when KWOK Ho Lam picked out the unmarked WONG Ching Tak at the far post for a simple tap-in to make it 5:2.
Eastern District came agonizingly close to a sixth on 26 minutes when CHOW Ka Wa's fierce drive from an acute angle cannoned back off the upright.
Pak Hei refused to throw in the towel, pulling one back through YUEN Sai Bo's expertly-taken direct free-kick that nestled in the back of the net to make it 3:5.
Eastern District put the result beyond doubt in the 32nd minute with a moment of quality, as KWOK Ho Lam found space on the edge of the area before lashing home to restore their three-goal cushion at 6:3.
Although CHEUNG Chun Yiu grabbed a late consolation for Pak Hei, converting LAI Chun Wai's set piece delivery in last minute, it proved to be nothing more than a footnote as Eastern District ran out comfortable 6:4 victors to seal their spot in the showpiece final.
Eastern District’s CHOW Ka Wa admitted his side's performance was far from flawless despite the victory, highlighting concentration lapses that need addressing: "When they pegged us back to 2:2, we were really under the cosh, but credit to the lads for responding so quickly. We showed great character to switch up our approach and keep them guessing, though our focus wasn't always there." He's confident the squad has strengthened since last season and is backing the younger members to step up as they chase back-to-back titles: "We're in the final now, so naturally we're gunning for the trophy. It's all about everyone pulling their weight. We've got lads splitting duties between the Premier League and this competition, so we're not exactly stacked depth-wise."
