Tai Po met up with KC Southern in Mong Kok Stadium on Wednesday night (10th September) for the 2025-26 HKFA Senior Shield clash. Tai Po beat KC Southern by 3:1.

On Wednesday evening (September 10) at Mong Kok Stadium, Tai Po FC produced a commanding display to overcome KC Southern 3:1 in a thrilling Senior Shield Cup encounter, earning a coveted quarter-final clash against Lee Man.

KC Southern started brightly in the opening exchanges, with Lucas Emmanuel unleashing a curling effort from the periphery of the 18-yard box that drifted agonizingly wide of the upright. Just moments later, in the 12th minute, Lucas Emmanuel latched onto a defense-splitting through ball from Jonatan Acosta before firing a venomous strike from an acute angle that forced the alert Tai Po goalkeeper into a magnificent reflex save.

The momentum remained with KC Southern as they continued to probe the Tai Po rearguard. Following a defensive miscue in the Tai Po backline, Sasaki Shu pounced on the loose ball before unleashing a ferocious drive from a challenging position that the keeper did well to parry to safety.

In the 28th minute, KC Southern orchestrated another promising attack down the right flank, with Chan Yun Tung delivering a tantalizing cross into the danger zone. Matheus Nascimento was unable to make clean contact, before Sasaki Shu's follow-up attempt was expertly smothered by the increasingly influential Tai Po shot-stopper.

As the half progressed, Tai Po gradually established a foothold in the contest, crafting several threatening forays into opposition territory. Michel Renner cleverly evaded his marker before surging into the penalty area and unleashing a powerful left-footed drive that the goalkeeper acrobatically tipped around the post. Shortly after, Nicholas Benavides cut inside from his wide position and fired a curling effort that was comfortably gathered by the goalkeeper.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 37th minute when Patrick Peral collected a precise pass from Chan Siu Kwan Philip before unleashing an unstoppable 25-yard thunderbolt that arrowed into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot as Tai Po took a deserved 1:0 advantage.

On the stroke of half-time, Tai Po nearly doubled their lead when the predatory Paulo Simionato burst into the box and fired a goal-bound effort that required a spectacular diving save from the goalkeeper. The alert Nicholas Benavides reacted quickest to the rebound but could only direct his effort from a difficult angle into the side netting, ensuring the scoreline remained 1:0 at the interval.

Tai Po emerged from the dressing room with renewed vigor after the restart. In the 47th minute, Weverton Ribeiro connected with a perfectly weighted through ball from Michel Renner before unleashing a stinging drive that the goalkeeper managed to palm away to safety.

KC Southern responded with attacking intent in the 63rd minute, as Murilo Felisberto delivered an inviting cross from the left flank to find the unmarked Jonatan Acosta, who unfortunately skied his effort high over the crossbar from a promising position.

The pivotal moment arrived in the 72nd minute when Patrick Peral was scythed down in the penalty area by Chak Ting Fung, prompting the referee to point instantly to the spot. Displaying nerves of steel, Patrick Peral stepped up himself and clinically dispatched the spot-kick into the bottom corner, doubling Tai Po's advantage to 2:0.

Tai Po continued to carve open the KC Southern defense, with Paulo Simionato squandering a golden opportunity in the 80th minute when clean through on goal, only to be denied by the heroic goalkeeper who spread himself brilliantly to make a crucial save.

KC Southern managed to inject late drama into the contest four minutes later when Tai Po goalkeeper Tse Ka Wing misjudged a clearance, allowing the opportunistic Jonatan Acosta to execute an exquisite lob into the unguarded net, reducing the deficit to 1:2 and giving KC Southern a glimmer of hope.

However, Tai Po extinguished any possibility of a late comeback when the clinical finisher James Temelkovski extended their lead again, slotting home from close range after connecting with Fernando Augusto's pinpoint delivery to restore the two-goal cushion.

At the final whistle, Tai Po celebrated a well-deserved 3:1 triumph over KC Southern, securing their passage to the quarter-finals where they will face Lee Man in what promises to be an enthralling contest for a coveted semi-final berth.
