Jockey Club Women’s League (2nd Division) reached a dramatic conclusion on Saturday (May 2), as BC Rangers secured a 2-0 victory over Kwoon Chung Southern to pull off a stunning late surge for the local title.

Capitalizing on a loss by league leaders Hong Kong Ladies Football Association, BC Rangers overturned a two-point deficit to finish the season at the top of the table, securing promotion to 1st Division.

BC Ranger signaled their intent early. In the 10th minute, Lau Ka Hey received a clinical pass on the left wing and unleashed a strike from the edge of the area that whistled just wide of the post. Ten minutes later, she forced a save from the Southern goalkeeper after breaking into the box from a tight angle.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 23rd minute. Ip Cheuk Yan found herself in a semi-breakaway position and showed great composure to slot the ball into the far corner, giving Ranger a vital 1-0 lead.

Kwoon Chung Southern fought back, utilizing a high-press system that eventually yielded opportunities. Nilsson Alice Josefine Yvonne tested the defense with a powerful effort from distance, though it failed to hit the target. Their best chance came during three minutes of first-half stoppage time; Leong Kwan Nok spearheaded a rapid counter-attack, driving from midfield into the box, but her subsequent shot flashed agonizingly across the face of the goal.

The second half began as a cagey, end-to-end affair, though Ranger maintained the lion's share of possession. Their persistence paid off when Bhandari Srist rose highest to meet a corner from the left, directing a clinical header into the net to double the lead.

The advantage could have been even greater just sixty seconds later. Wong Ching beat the offside trap to go one-on-one with the keeper, but her effort lacked the placement required to beat Wong Suet Yi, who produced a fine save to keep the scoreline at 2-0.

The 2-0 result proved decisive. With Hong Kong Ladies Football Association suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Hoi King in their simultaneous season finale, BC Ranger’s haul of 29 points was enough to secure the championship trophy. The victory marks a triumphant return to form for the club, who can now look forward to the challenges of 1st Division next season.
