On Sunday (January 17), Kwun Tong secured a commanding 2:0 victory over Monday Ike in the Jockey Club Women's Football League (3rd Division) clash at Happy Valley Recreation Ground, with goals in either half earning them maximum points.
Kwun Tong enjoyed the lion's share of possession from the opening whistle, but struggled to break down Monday Ike's resolute backline in the early exchanges. Kwun Tong registered their first effort on goal in the 11th minute when Leung Ka Wan met a dangerous delivery from the right wing, though her tame attempt was comfortably gathered by the shot-stopper. Two minutes later, Kwun Tong threatened again as Ng Tsz Yin tried her luck from distance, but her speculative strike flashed narrowly wide of the upright. Firmly in the ascendancy, Kwun Tong kept pushing forward. The 28th minute saw Monday Ike's goalkeeper gift possession with a wayward clearance, allowing Ng Tsz Yin to pull the trigger from range, but the keeper recovered to make a routine save. Kwun Tong's pressure finally told in the 34th minute when Ng Tsz Yin produced a moment of individual brilliance. She surged down the left channel, beating two challenges before cutting inside and rifling an unstoppable effort past the diving keeper from an acute angle to break the deadlock. The sides went in at the interval with Kwun Tong holding a slender 1:0 advantage.
After the restart, Kwun Tong remained firmly in control, though Monday Ike's defensive resilience limited clear-cut chances. In the 49th minute, Wong Sze Man latched onto a short corner routine and let fly from the edge of the area, but her left-footed drive posed little threat to the keeper. Kwun Tong came close to doubling their lead on 59 minutes when a whipped corner from the left caused havoc in the six-yard box, but Leung Ka Wan couldn't keep her close-range effort under the crossbar. Monday Ike looked to hit back on the counter, with Chan Tsz Lam showing pace and trickery down the left flank on several occasions, though the final ball continually eluded her teammates. Kwun Tong continued to probe from dead-ball situations, with Leung Ka Wan glancing a header from a right-wing corner just off target in the 76th minute. The points were wrapped up four minutes from time when Leung Ka Wan rose highest to meet another corner from the right, powering her header into the far corner to seal a well-deserved victory.
Full-time: Kwun Tong 2:0 Monday Ike. A professional performance sees Kwun Tong collect all three points.
