Hong Kong, China met up with Guangdong at Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday night (28th December) for the 44th Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup(1st Leg.). The encounter concluded with an 2:2 draw between Hong Kong, China and Guangdong.
Early in the first half, Guangdong's Chen Wei took a shot from the edge of the penalty area, which Hong Kong goalkeeper Pong Cheuk-hei saved. Ten minutes later, Aki launched a long ball forward, and Lau Ka Kiu won the ball but his shot went just wide. In the 24th minute, veteran Jiang Zhipeng crossed from the left wing into the middle, and Yuan Zinan's close-range shot was saved by Pong Cheuk-hei, allowing Hong Kong to hold on for the time being. Towards the end of the first half, Sun Ming Him won the ball and fired a powerful left-footed shot into the net, giving Hong Kong a 1-0 lead over Guangdong at halftime.
In the 53rd minute, Chen Wei equalized for Guangdong at 1-1. In the 61st minute, Jiang Zhipeng of Guangdong scored from the left wing, putting Guangdong ahead. Chen Wei then received his second yellow card, leaving Guangdong with 10 men. Hong Kong's Junior was fouled in the penalty area by Yuan Zinan, and the referee awarded a penalty, which Everton converted to equalize for Hong Kong. In the 73rd minute, Huang Zishun collided with Yu Joy Yin, and the referee showed him his second yellow card, leaving the away team with 9 men against 11. The two teams eventually drew 2-2.
