In a thrilling encounter at Pitch No.4 of the Jockey Club HKFA Football Training Centre, HKFC edged out TSL FC 2:1 in the Jockey Club Women's Youth Football League (U15) clash on Sunday(November 17th).
The match kicked off with HKFC showing early intent, as CHAN AUGUSTA PEARL and SCHULZ AMELIE CLARA ZOE tested the waters with long-range efforts that failed to trouble the keeper. TSL FC soon found their rhythm, with WONG TSZ YIU whipping in a dangerous free-kick that narrowly missed the target at the 12-minute mark. The woodwork came to HKFC's rescue in the 15th minute when CHEUNG CHING YAN's powerful strike from a right-wing cross was parried onto the crossbar by goalkeeper NG TSZ LING TRINITY in a heart-stopping moment.
As the first half progressed, HKFC began to assert their dominance. CHENG REINA MING YEE twice forced saves from CHING YUET, while CHAN AUGUSTA PEARL's effort from the edge of the box lacked the power to beat the goalkeeper. The deadlock was finally broken in the 41st minute. CHUA SOPHIA showcased her predatory instincts, dispossessing an opponent before embarking on a lung-busting run and coolly slotting past CHING YUET to give HKFC the lead. HKFC doubled their advantage just two minutes later, courtesy of a moment of brilliance from CHAN AUGUSTA PEARL. She unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the area that nestled into the top corner, leaving CHING YUET rooted to the spot.
The second half saw a more cagey affair, with clear-cut chances at a premium. HKFC's CHUA SOPHIA came close to extending the lead in the 59th minute, but her quick turn and shot from a throw-in sailed over the crossbar.
TSL FC rallied late on, pushing for a way back into the match. LAU HO YUEN orchestrated a promising attack in the 70th minute, teeing up WONG YING JEON for a long-range effort that was comfortably gathered by the HKFC goalkeeper. CHEUNG CHING YAN continued to pose a threat for the visitors, weaving past two defenders in the 76th minute before unleashing a strike that was smothered by the alert HKFC goalkeeper.
Just as it seemed HKFC would see out a comfortable victory, TSL FC set up a grandstand finish. In the dying moments, MA KONG SUM combined brilliantly with CHEUNG CHING YAN before delivering a teasing cross. NG TSZ LING TRINITY could only parry the ball into the path of the unmarked CHOW PUI KEI, who made no mistake from close range to reduce the deficit.
Despite the late scare, HKFC held on to secure a hard-fought 2:1 victory, claiming all three points.
