In a scintillating encounter of the Jockey Club Futsal League - Division 2, held at the Moreton Terrace Temporary Playground on Thursday (23rd May), North District emerged victorious over Kowloon Cricket Club, marking a resounding 6:1 win at the Moreton Terrace Temporary Playground. This thrilling victory earned them all three points and the coveted position of league runner-up this season.
North District started on the front foot, Ho Chun Ting making the first attempt on target two minutes in, only to be thwarted by Kowloon Cricket Club's vigilant goalkeeper, Chan Wai Chi Ricky.
Moments later, the tide seemed to turn with Kowloon Cricket Club launching an offensive. Chan Kim Hung James, however, failed to convert Yang Zhang George's clever pass into a goal, as his shot flew over the bar.
At the 4th minute, North District broke the deadlock. Wong Wai Kwok swung in a precise cross from the left, finding Ho Chun Ting who made no mistake, driving the ball into the net and putting North District ahead 1:0.
North District continued to press their advantage. Three minutes later, Naveed latched onto a teammate's pass, skillfully dodged the goalkeeper, and slotted the ball into the unguarded net. This goal doubled North District's lead to 2:0.
Despite leading, North District kept their foot on the gas, creating numerous chances. However, Chow Ka Lok Leo's acute angled shot and Wong Wai Kwok's close-range attempt were both expertly saved by the goalkeeper.
Kowloon Cricket Club wasn't without opportunities either. At the 13th minute, Chan Kim Hung James's header from Chan Wai Chi Ricky's long pass just went wide. The first half concluded with North District leading 2:0.
As the second half commenced, Kowloon Cricket Club upped their attack tempo. At the 21st minute, Yang Zhang George narrowly missed the mark after receiving Chan Kim Hung James's left-wing cross.
North District, however, continued to dominate. At the 22nd minute, Lau Kwan Ching found himself unmarked in the penalty area and capitalized on it to make the score 3:0.
A minute later, Naveed cut inside from right and fired the ball home with a powerful left-footed shot, increasing North District's lead to an imposing 4:0.
At the 25th minute, North District further bolstered their lead. Naveed chipped the ball into an empty net from midfield, completing a memorable hat-trick.
Despite trailing, Kowloon Cricket Club displayed remarkable resilience, persisting in their efforts to score. At the 26th minute, Chan Kim Hung James's long-range effort was denied by North District's goalkeeper Tong Chun Hung, as was Tong Wai Yuen's rebound shot.
Their perseverance finally bore fruit at the 31st minute, as Yang Zhang George broke through the defense to score, narrowing the deficit to 1:5.
However, North District was quick to retaliate. A minute later, Chan Ho Ka intercepted a pass and fired into the empty net.
The final whistle blew, sealing North District's emphatic 6:1 victory over Kowloon Cricket Club. This win not only secured all three points for North District but also crowned them as the runner-up of this year's Jockey Club Futsal League - Division 2.
