In a thrilling showdown at the Jockey Club HKFA Training Centre Pitch No.4, Sha Tin edged past WSE 1:0 in the Jockey Club Women's Football League (1st Division) fixture. The solitary goal from Wong So Han in the dying moments secured all three points for Sha Tin.
The first half was a tightly contested affair with both teams creating ample opportunities. Sha Tin, who enjoyed majority of the ball possession, threatened first. In the 8th minute, Poon Ka Ka's header off a cross from Wong So Han was safely gathered by the vigilant goalkeeper, Chow Kam Yee. WSE quickly retaliated with Fong Lok Ching firing a long-range effort. The shot took a nick off the goalkeeper and continued its path towards the goal, only to be cleared off the goal-line by a defender.
In the 11th minute, Sha Tin carved out an excellent opportunity as Cheung Ching Tung latched onto a long pass to find herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. However, her shot skewed wide. WSE then wrestled back control of the game, making several attacking moves. Fung Sharon's long-range effort was comfortably held by the goalkeeper in the 16th minute, while Fong Lok Ching's shot from the left flank was also denied eight minutes later.
On the 26th minute mark, Kung Yuet Charis embarked on a solo run into the box from the left wing and fired a shot, only to be thwarted by the alert goalkeeper. In the 33rd minute, Chan Wing Sze's ambitious long shot failed to find the target. The first half concluded in a stalemate with neither side able to break the deadlock.
The second half saw Sha Tin regaining the upper hand, creating a flurry of chances. Cheung Ching Tung narrowly headed over from Lau Hoi Yan's cross in the 52nd minute. A minute later, Kung Yuet Charis's right-wing breakthrough and subsequent pass to Cheung Ching Tung ended with another shot just wide of the post. Sha Tin maintained their offensive pressure in the 58th minute when Chan Wing Sze seized on a defensive error and shot just over from the edge of the box.
In the 67th minute, Sha Tin came close again as Chan Wing Sze's direct free kick from the left wing was denied by the crossbar. Despite being on the backfoot, WSE launched an attack in the 72nd minute. Tam Ka Ki's powerful shot off a fine pass from Fong Lok Ching was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Sha Tin responded as Kung Yuet Charis used her speed to break into the box from the right wing and made a narrow-angle shot, which was parried by the goalkeeper.
In the final moments, Sha Tin's relentless efforts bore fruit as Wong So Han's direct free kick found the top corner to make it 1:0.
Finally, Sha Tin successfully held their nerve to maintain their slender lead till the final whistle, clinching a hard-fought 1:0 victory over WSE and bagging all three points.
