Kitchee hosted against Sham Shui Po at home in Mong Kok Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League clash. Kitchee got a 5:1 victory over Sham Shui Po.
Kitchee persisted with their attacks and at the 24-minute mark, Poon Pui Hin saw his one-on-one shot thwarted by the alert Sham Shui Po goalkeeper, Li Yat Chun. Despite being on the back foot, Sham Shui Po occasionally threatened with counterattacks, yet failed to trouble Kitchee's steadfast defense.Ivan Markovic launched an attempt on goal after a lovely combination with Vanja Markovic near the penalty area. However, he couldn’t generate enough power to his shot and was easily gathered by the goalkeeper. Towards the end of the first half, Sham Shui Po Chang Kwong Yin also unleashed a potent right-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area, only to be deftly denied by the vigilant keeper again. The first half culminated in a goalless stalemate, with both sides failing to break the deadlock.
Kitchee stepped up their offensive game by introducing Jantscher Jakob and Cleiton in the second half. The change in tactics paid off handsomely as they netted three goals within a seven-minute spell starting from the 57th minute. Mikael broke the deadlock with a wonderful free-kick strike, followed by a calmly finish off Cleiton’s cross. The 64th minute saw Charlie Scott slotting in a world-class goal with Jantscher Jakob’s corner delivery, taking the score to 3:0.
Kitchee maintained their stranglehold on the game and at the 80-minute mark, Shinchi Chan sent a pinpoint left cross to the goalmouth, Mikael's first shot was saved but he made no mistake with the rebound, completing his hat-trick and extending the lead to 4:0.
Kitchee scored again just two mintues later .Sham Shui Po's defender Narh gave away the ball in his own half.Jantscher Jakob picked up the loose ball and sent a clever back-foot pass to Fernando Augusto,the latter then swiftly forwarded it to the unmarked Poon Pui Hin,who netted the ball easily and stretched the lead to 5:0. Despite being heavily outmatched, Sham Shui Po showcased their resilience, clawing one back before the final whistle. Dunga capitalized on Chang Kwong Yin's precise through ball, storming the penalty box and smashing home a consolation goal. When the dust settled, it was Kitchee who emerged victorious with a dominating 5:1 triumph over Sham Shui Po. This comprehensive win bagged them all three points, catapulting them to second place in the league standings.
