Eastern District and Citizen locked horns on Saturday afternoon in Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground for a Third-place match in the FA Cup (Junior Division). Citizen scored on both halves and eventually beat Eastern District by 2:1 on the day.
Citizen stormed out the gate aggressively and almost opened the score as Lu Hong Wa fired successive shots from the top of the Eastern District box but could not beat goalkeeper Ng Tsz Hin on both occasions.
Afterwards, it was still Citizen enjoying the upper hand, as Kwok Yin Tang Marco’s point-blank shot sailed over the crossbar.
Citizen went in front on the 20th minute, as Citizen’s Pang Chung Hin headed on a teammate’s cross, forcing Eastern District’s Chow Cheuk Him to drill the ball into his own net while under pressure. Citizen was up 1:0.
On the 32nd minute, Citizen’s Lau Cho Wang sent a teasing cross towards the middle. Wong Chi Cheun fired away but saw his shot cleared away by an opposing player.
The first half wrapped up with Citizen enjoying a 1:0 lead over Eastern District.
After the interval, Citizen went on and made it 2:0 on the 65th minute, Kwok Yin Tang Marco’s brilliant solo effort saw the player beating several Eastern District player, before firring the ball into the net. It was now 2:0 for Citizen.
Eastern District tried to mount a comeback afterwards, yet Tsang Tsz Hin’s flying header was superbly denied by She Pat Hong in the Citizen goal.
On the 78th minute, Eastern District’s Li Ka Chun shook off two Citizen players, fired to the far corner-corner but saw his strike sailing just wide off the intended target.
Eastern District managed to get on the scoreboard late in the game. Kwok Ho Lam’s cross was finished off by Luk Cham Hin, as the ball soared into the Citizen net, making it a 1:2 game.
Deep in stoppage time, Eastern District’s Wan King You was shown a red card by the referee, making it an even larger mountain for the district side to climb.
At the end, it was Citizen that came out on top, beating Eastern District 2:1 and finished third in the FA Cup (Junior Division).
