Despite playing away from home, Eastern got off to a fast start in the game and opened the score on the 7th minute, as Zhu Kangming connected with a teammate’s free-kick delivery and headed the ball home, putting the visitors in front 1:0.
Moments later, Eastern had a brilliant chance to take the lead, as the visitors picked up the ball in the Sham Shui Po half and quickly attacked. Emilio Tsai pulled the trigger from the edge of the Sham Shui Po box but fired the ball over the crossbar.
Shortly afterwards, Eastern’s Tamirlan Kozubaev connected with an Emilio Tsai corner-kick delivery but nodded the ball wide off target.
On the 16th minute, Eastern was given a great chance to make it 2:0, as a Sham Shui Po player committed a foul inside his own box and was penalized by the referee. Eastern’s Sun Ming-him was tasked with the the spot-kick opportunity, yet Sun’s penalty-shot was spectacularly saved by Sham Shui Po goalkeeper Oleksii Shiliakotin.
However, Eastern was not to be denied and netted its second goal of the game on the 30th minute. Emilio Tsai’s corner-kick found teammate Tamirlan Kozubaev. The latter dished out a tasty leaping header and found the back of the Sham Shui Po net, making it 2:0 for Eastern.
Sham Shui Po tried to answer back immediately and almost came up with the goods, yet Sim Woonsub’s free-kick attempt was easily handled by Eastern goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai.
The first half concluded with Eastern establishing a 2:0 lead over Sham Shui Po.
Eastern produced the first genuine scoring chance in the second half. On the 56th minute, Wong Ho-chun’s forward pass picked out Sun Ming-him in the front. The latter pulled the trigger on a quick shot but could not hit the target with his effort.
It was still Eastern afterwards. On the 66th minute, Marcos Gondra unloaded from outside the Sham Shui Po box but could not beat goalkeeper Oleksii Shiliakotin with his effort.
A few minutes later, Sham Shui Po generated a rare scoring chance, as Tang Tsz-kwan cut towards the middle and fired away, only to be stopped by Eastern goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai.
On the 76th minute, Eastern duly made it 3:0. Sun Ming-him broke behind the Sham Shui Po defense, darted into the box, rounded goalkeeper Oleksii Shiliakotin and sent the ball into the net, making it 3:0 for Eastern.
It was still Eastern late in the game. On the 84th minute, Emilio Tsai’s free-kick sailed just over the Sham Shui Po crossbar. The visitors were close to pulling further away.
Deep in stoppage time, a Sham Shui Po player committed a foul inside his own box. The referee pointed to the penalty-spot and gave Eastern a spot-kick. Sun Ming-him buried the opportunity and made it 4:0.
The score stood all the way to the end of the regulation time, as Eastern went on to beat Sham Shui Po by 4:0 on the day.
