Hong Kong U-18 Representative Team has embarked to Indonesia last week, putting the finishing touches on its preparation for the fast-approaching AFC U-19 Championship 2020 Qualifiers.
Hong Kong finds itself situated in AFC U-19 Championship 2020 Qualifier Group K, facing host nation Indonesia, DPR Korea and Timor-Leste. Group winners from the eleven qualifying groups will directly advance to the AFC U-19 Championship 2020 Finals, whereas only the top four second-place sides from the ten qualifying groups will make it to the next round of the competition.
A closer look at the Hong Kong U-18 Representative Team will show that the team has indeed a lot of genuine talents within the squad, including the likes of Leung Yau-wai, Jesse Yu, Connor Tong and So Dick-on. Players such as Clive Ng, Shinichi Chan and Bosley Yu are all first-team members in their respective clubs. In addition, Lo Siu-kei and Lai Pui-kei have both earned prominent roles for their club sides in the premier league circuit this season, making this Hong Kong U-18 Representative Team a side that is highly promising.
Thorlakur Arnason, who will be in charge of the Hong Kong U-18 Representative Team, reveals the team is gradually rounding into form and hopes to come up with good results in the tournament.
“We came to Indonesia early to try to acclimatize to the local surroundings,” Arnason said.
“As a matter of fact, we have gradually discovered that the local weather is quite similar to Hong Kong upon our arrival, thus should not pose as a huge factor to the team’s performance. Over the next few days, we will focus on tactical training. Hopefully, we can achieve some good results in the tournament.”
