Just 1 minute into the match, ShaTin took the lead. Sin Ying Sum took a direct free kick, and the goalkeeper failed to hold it, allowing the ball to slip into the net. After going ahead, ShaTin continued to press hard. In the 2nd minute, Tang On Yu delivered a cross, and Sit Ka Ki scored from a goalmouth scramble to make it 2:0. WSE then finally created some chances. In the 3rd minute, Cheung Cheuk Yin fired a long-range shot from outside the box, but the goalkeeper saved it comfortably. Later, Cheung Cheuk Yin hit the crossbar with a cross-shot from the right wing. However, in the 6th minute, ShaTin's Yeung Nga Wing sent in a cross that the goalkeeper fumbled, extending the lead to 3:0. In the 20th minute, WSE 's Cheung Cheuk Yin dribbled into the box and shot into the far corner, pulling one back to make it 1:3. Just before halftime, ShaTin's Tam Ka Yi headed in from a corner kick.

In the second half, WSE regained much of the attacking impetus. In the 44th minute, Chan Hau Yau scored a wonder goal from outside the box, sending the ball straight into the top right corner to bring the score to 2:4. WSE continued to threaten, with Cheung Cheuk Yin dribbling past several defenders on the right and firing a powerful shot, but it was too central and the goalkeeper gathered it. In the 61st minute, ShaTin had two consecutive attempts: first, Yeung Nga Wing shot wide from a half one-on-one chance, then Su Xian Zhi volleyed over the bar from inside the box.
