In an exciting semi-final match of Hong Kong Premier Youth League (U18-FA Cup) at Shek Kip Mei Park, HKFC triumphed over Lucky Mile with a score of 5:3, securing their place in the final.
Lucky Mile started strong, creating several chances early on. In the third minute, player Serisola Brisben delivered a cross from the right was blocked by the goalkeeper. Just a minute later, Nainani Yuvray Vijay Vashdev received a long pass from a teammate, entered the box, and scored from a tight angle, putting Lucky Mile ahead 1:0.
After stabilizing their defense, HKFC began to regain control of the game. In the 14th minute, Sundberg Hugo Gustaf Algot headed over from a corner kick, and in the 31st minute, a scramble in front of the goal saw Kedwards Nicholas hit the post. HKFC finally equalized in the 35th minute when Kedwards Nicholas shot from the top of the box into the far corner, making it 1:1. Three minutes later, Lucky Mile's goalkeeper made a mistake by misplacing a pass to Mcgunnigle, who easily scored. Hong Kong FC added another goal before halftime, with Mcgunnigle heading in after receiving a pass, leading 3:1 at the break.
After the interval, HKFC quickly extended their lead. Mcgunnigle scored a stunning long-range shot from outside the box, finding the top right corner to make it 4:1. In the 63rd minute, Lucky Mile's Castro Rebolledo Alejandro was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty that Mirwasser William Salmon converted, closing the gap to 4:2. Just four minutes later, Souleyman entered the box and crossed for Bennie, who scored easily to make it 5:2.
Lucky Mile managed to pull one back in the 80th minute when Castro Rebolledo Alejandro scored from the right side of the box, but it was not enough. Ultimately, HKFC won 5:3, advancing to the final.
After the match, Mcgunnigle, who scored three goals, commented: “I couldn’t have scored without the support of my teammates, and I think the overall performance of the team was good.”
Looking ahead to the final against Kitchee , Mcgunnigle stated, “The team will prepare vigorously. The side with more determination in the final will emerge victorious.”
