KC Southern draw with Eastern by 1:1 in the JC Sapling Cup (Group A) at Sham Shui Po Sports Ground today.
Kwoon Chung Southern started the game with a promising scoring chance. In the early stages, a free kick from the left side by Togashi Ryoo found Stefan Pereira's head, but the goalkeeper made an impressive save to deny the goal.
As the game progressed, Eastern gradually took control of the proceedings. In the 23rd minute, Noah Baffoe made an impressive run down the left flank into the penalty area, only to be fouled by Chan Yun Tung. The referee promptly awarded a penalty, but unfortunately, Marcos Gondra's shot soared high above the crossbar.
In the 32nd minute, Eastern continued their attacking onslaught. A pinpoint pass down the middle from Marcos Gondra found Ma Hei Wai, who unleashed a powerful shot from a tight angle inside the penalty area, narrowly missing the target.
Despite being on the back foot, Kwoon Chung Southern managed to break the deadlock just before halftime. A skillfully taken corner kick from the left by Togashi Ryoo found Dos Santos Kessi Isac at the far post, who headed the ball back into the danger zone. Mahama Awal was in the right place at the right time to guide the ball into the net, giving Kwoon Chung Southern a valuable 1:0 lead going into the break.
The second half saw an intensification of attacks from both sides, resulting in several close calls in front of goal. In the 56th minute, a cross from the right by Mahama Awal caused chaos in Eastern's defense, as Calum Hall's attempted clearance inadvertently headed towards his own goal, but luckily for Eastern, the crossbar came to their rescue.
In the 61st minute, Eastern had a golden opportunity to equalize. Marcos Gondra skillfully evaded two defenders and unleashed a powerful long-range shot, only to be denied by a spectacular diving save from the goalkeeper.
In the 70th minute, Stefan Pereira intercepted Calum Hall's clearance on the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a thunderous shot, but once again, the goalkeeper proved to be equal to the task and pushed the ball away.
As the game entered its final stages, Eastern launched a relentless offensive to salvage a point. In the 80th minute, Yu Joy Yin Jesse delivered a dangerous free kick from the right side into the penalty area, and Daniel Almazan Vera rose above the defenders to head the ball into the back of the net, leveling the score at 1:1.
Eastern continued to push for a winner, creating consecutive chances to take the lead. First, Noah Baffoe connected with a cross from Sun Ming Him on the left side, controlling the ball inside the penalty area and unleashing a precise shot, only to see it come agonizingly close as it struck the post. Then, Gurung Prabhat met a cross from Ng Yu Hei on the left side with a powerful shot, but the crossbar once again denied Eastern the lead.
Despite being reduced to 10 men in injury time due to Jose Carlos receiving two yellow cards and one red card, Kwoon Chung Southern showed great resilience, successfully defending their goal until the final whistle.
In the end, Eastern and Kwoon Chung Southern shared the spoils with a 1:1 draw, with both teams taking away a valuable point from the encounter.
