Lunar New Year Cup 2013


The Lunar New Year Cup 2013 will be held at the Hong Kong Stadium on the first and fourth day of the Lunar Chinese New Year. – February 10 2013 (Sunday) and February 13 2013 (Wednesday) respectively.

This exciting soccer event is being organized by Kitchee (Sports Management) Limited.  The HKFA is sanctioning the event and entering a HK League XI in the tournament as well as providing organizational support.

There will be four teams participating in Hong Kong this year - The HK League XI (Hong Kong), Busan IPARK (Korea), Muangthong United (Thailand) and Shanghai East Asia (China). These four teams will play four games in a two-day event.

February 10 2013 (Sunday)
3pm:        Shanghai East Asia (China) vs Muangthong United (Thailand)
5:30 pm:  HK League XI (Hong Kong) vs Busan IPARK (Korea)

February 13 2013 (Wednesday)
3pm:        Third place play off
5:30pm:   Final

Mr. Mark Sutcliffe, the CEO of HKFA, said: "I am looking forward to two days excellent and competitive football. It is good that teams from China, Korea and Thailand want to come to Hong Kong to share in this annual celebration. I hope as many spectators as possible come to the stadium and create a vibrant atmosphere."

Daily ticket prices for adult tickets are HK$180 and HK$130 while daily concession tickets for students and senior citizens are priced at HK$60 (There will be a handling charge of HK$5 per ticket). Tickets can be bought through Cityline at or by calling hotline 2111 5333 from January 23, 2013. You can also purchase in person at Tom Lee Music branches.
Mr. Ken K. Ng, the President of Kitchee (Sports Management) Limited, mentioned: “Kitchee thanks the support from many in the local football circle who, like us, are determined to continue with this fine local Lunar New Year tradition.”

To introduce more fun and public participation in this upcoming Lunar New Year Cup, the HK League XI will be selected by a public voting scheme. The most ten popular players will be voted for by the general public. Voting will start on January 15 2013 (12:00) through January 20 2013 (23:59) via the HKFA website (  

Mr. Brian Leung, the Chairman of HKFA, also said: “The last time HK League XI participated in the Lunar New Year Cup was in 2009. I am delighted the HK League XI will once again represent Hong Kong in this year’s 2013 Lunar New Year Cup. Moreover, the online public voting will definitely arouse more inspiration to the football fans and as well as to the Hong Kong Team.”
