Buler Rangers snap up the last semi-final place
Buler Rangers defeated Xiangxue Pharmaceutical by 2-0 in the re-match of the first round of the FA Cup, and will face South China in the semi-final next tuesday.
Buler Rangers had Julius Akosah back to the starting XI, which strengthened their attack. Xiangxue came back after a night's rest, and entered the match with better fitness. Both teams failed to create clear-cut chances in the first half and the first half ended 0-0. After break, Rangers changed their strategy and got 4 chances in the first 10 minutes.
Chan Yiu-lun's free kick went over the bar in the 48th minute. After that, Julius Akosah broke into the Xiangxue box and blazed towards the goal but was saved by 'keeper Zhang Chunhui. Anilton Da Conceicao's long range effort only barely missed the target. They finally broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. Chan Yiu-lun scored a tremendous free kick to the corner of the net from 30 yards out, 1-0. Eleven minutes later, Zhang Chunhui failed to grab Anilton's throw in and Julius Akosah headed the ball into the empty goal under pressure from 2 Xiangxue defenders, 2-0.
Xiangxue tried to hit back at the dying stages of the match, but they lacked form and failed to trouble the Rangers 'keeper. Although Anilton miskicked the ball in front of the empty goal 2 minutes from time, Rangers successfully entered the semi-final next tuesday.
